About Melissa
I have lived in Macungie for just over 10 years, and my two children attend Emmaus High School. They have both been in the East Penn School District since 1st grade, and we have been grateful for the strong foundation it has given them.
I grew up just outside of Philadelphia in South Jersey and have lived in Phoenix, Arizona, and Rochester, New York before our family settled in Macungie. It was during my time in Phoenix that I decided to pursue a career in education, following in the footsteps of my parents and step-parent. I earned my teaching certification and spent several years in the classroom, first teaching 8th grade social studies and later high school English.
Teaching in Arizona, one of the lowest-funded states for public education, gave me a deep appreciation for the challenges educators face when resources are limited. I did everything I could to give my kids the best education possible under those conditions. Later, I moved to one of the top-ranked states for public education and experienced firsthand how wide the gap is between education systems across the country. That experience has stayed with me.
Eventually, I transitioned out of education and into the business world. After moving to Macungie, I earned my executive MBA, which led to my current role as the managing director of an embedded electronics company. My background in both education and business gives me a well-rounded perspective, one that blends classroom insight with strategic leadership, both of which are essential for serving on the school board.
I am running for the East Penn School Board because I want to give back to this community and help ensure that every student has access to the same excellent education my children have received. While East Penn has a lot to be proud of, there are always opportunities to improve. I want to support our teachers and staff by making sure they have the resources they need and help prepare our students for the future.
When I am not working or spending time with my husband and kids, you might see me around town running a local 5K, cheering on Philly sports teams, or relaxing outdoors with a good cup of coffee.
